Even when you are not in the hospital, it is smart to be on an appropriate diet at all times. To start off, let's just talk about what a diet can do for you.
Why is a diet good for you?
Being on my diet just makes me feel good. This can happen to everyone - just find the diet that is right for you. You do not need to cut everything out. Start with the big things like soda and dessert and then go from there. I know what you are thinking right now -- going on a diet is not just to lose weight. Being on an appropriate diet will help anybody's overall health and improve performance in every area. A diet will make you feel a lot better. I am on a diet right now and, after a couple of weeks, I felt so much better. I was playing tennis better, feeling better and did not even want desserts any more.
What my diet is
I am on a really strict diet right now. I can't drink any soda, eat white flour, have desserts or sugar, have fruits with high sugar (like mangos), or have fatty foods. I know this might seem hard, but it is actually really easy. For example, let's say I went out for dinner. I would just get some water to drink and, instead of getting a pizza, maybe I would get some chicken or a steak, two options that are a lot healthier for me. Then, when dessert comes, and my friends order cake and ice cream, I can get some tea, cheese or fruit. It really is not that bad. You just have to find food that you like and that is healthy to replace the food that is bad for you.
Now, my diet is really easy to manage. Any diet will be really hard at first, but just resist the temptation to not follow it. Over time, it will get easier and you won't even miss eating the food that was bad for you. You just have to get through the first couple of weeks and then it'll be smooth sailing from there. Just watch out for this trap: let's say you just worked out, and you might think you can then cheat on your diet. Do not do this. This is the worst thing that can happen. You reason yourself into eating food that is bad for you and then it all goes downhill from there. After your workout, the best thing is to keep eating healthy. Do not let your brain convince yourself to cheat, just stick to your diet. It is the best way.
Side note about desserts
Remember that, even though you are on a diet, it is still okay to treat yourself now and then. For me, I usually have a dessert about every two weeks. It is okay to treat yourself once and a while, especially after you came out of the hospital. I know that whenever I get out of the hospital all I want is some sort of dessert. It is really okay to have something after the hospital and every one-two weeks. Having a sweet every two weeks or on special occasions is a reward for how well you have done on your diet.
Dump one
But, if you do not want to be on that severe of a diet, just try "dumping" one thing. For example, taking white flour or soda out of your diet could be a good "dump". This will make you feel a lot better and make you healthier too.
