While this website is for all sorts of medical conditions, I thought I would include some ideas about my condition. Here are some tips I have learned over the years about my J-pouch and the overall experience of having one.
1- If anything feels even a tiny bit off, tell your doctor right away. It won't hurt to just ask.
2- A way to ensure that your J-pouch stays healthy is to concentrate on eating healthy. For example, the easiest thing to cut out of your diet would be soda and dessert. The healthier you are, the healthier your J-pouch will be.
3- Another tip is to empty your J-pouch before you do any activity, like working out. This not only makes your pouch feel better, but also prevents any issues from occurring.
4- Make sure that you always empty your pouch before you sleep and right after you wake up. Even though you think it might be empty, I can guarantee it isn't.
5- Bedtime snacks are bad for anyone but are especially bad for someone with a J-pouch. Try to avoid those as much as possible.
6- Your J-pouch can stretch, which is totally normal. Therefore, it is important to always remember to empty your pouch throughout the day to ensure that it does not get too big, which could cause problems.
7- When you get sick, it might affect your J-Pouch and cause it to be less than normal. It is really important to try to stay healthy and take care of yourself. Rest and hydration are also really important.
Having a J-pouch can be a very hard experience. At first you may find it hard to get used to and weird, but eventually you will get used to it. Over time, this will feel more and more normal and eventually you won't even notice that it is there.
